Did you know?

Sony Ericsson is a relatively new company established in 2001 by the Japanese consumer electronics powerhouse, Sony Corporation, and the Swedish telecommunications giant, Ericsson. Despite this multinational heritage, their headquarters are in London, although they maintain research and development teams across the world.

The partnership's aim was to combine Sony's history and excellence in consumer electronics with Ericsson's telecommunications expertise to dominate the mobile phone industry. Now the pair are celebrating their 10th anniversary in the joint venture and all eyes are looking to the future.

Currently the sixth largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world as of 2010, Sony Ericsson's historical reliance on Symbian meant that they struggled to compete against newer operating systems like iOS and Android. However, after fully embracing Android, a full 80% of their phones are now smartphones and their Xperia series has proved to be very popular.
