Why O2?
Since its formation in 2001 when BT Wireless demerged from British Telecom, O2 has always been a leading provider of mobile and, more recently, broadband services in the UK. In fact, it is the leading provider of non-voice services - including text and media messaging services, games, music, video, and data transfers - and in December 2007 had over 40 million customers worldwide with 18.4 million in the UK alone.
Tariffs
O2 pride themselves on being able to match each and every customer's needs with a series of tariffs that are simple to understand and easy to choose. Rather than offering a huge and confusing number of tariffs, O2's online tariffs are based upon 6 popular choices, each of which costs exactly the same for every phone and on any contract length, although you get more for your money on a longer contract. They are offered on contracts of 12, 18, and 24 months, and cost from as little as £20/month for light users to £75/month for very heavy mobile-use.
Most recently, O2 also released a brand new £15 Tariff which gives you either unlimited texts or unlimited calls to other O2 mobiles, and is available on selected handsets.
Most O2 tariffs are also offered with Bolt Ons, which range from unlimited calls to other O2 mobiles on cheaper tariffs, to your choice from a range of bonuses on the more costly price plans, and extra Bolt Ons can be added for as little as £7.50/month. So far the options include:
• Unlimited O2-to-O2 calls
• Unlimited anytime texts
• Unlimited internet browsing
• Unlimited landline calls
• Unlimited weekend calls
• 200 extra anytime minutes
Futhermore, all the O2 tariffs you see on our site are Online Exclusives - meaning you can't get them anywhere else except on the internet, giving you so much extra value for money than buying from a high-street store or over the phone.
Apple iPhone
Recently O2 have been making the headlines as the only network currently offering the Apple iPhone within the UK. They've created a unique set of tariffs specifically designed to get the most out of the iPhone that include unlimited internet browsing along with a huge allowance of 500 texts and 600 or more minutes from just £35/month.
O2 Extras
O2 offer a number of extra bonuses to their customers, to let them get the most out of their mobile phone contract. The unique Bluebook lets you save every text and picture message and photo online, so that if your phone is damaged or stolen then you won't lose your precious memories, while O2 Active gives you instant access to a fast and full-colour world of games, music, news, sports, and entertainment straight from your handset - including eBay, the National Lottery, Channel 4, BBC, Sky Sports, FHM, NME, and EA Games, to mention but a few.
i-mode mobile internet on your phone gives users fast internet access at anytime so that you can check emails and browse the web and access exclusive services from a huge range of brands, whereas Trafficline 1200 keeps you up to date with traffic jams throughout the country, so that you never get stuck in line longer than you need be.
Coverage
As with all the major UK mobile networks, O2 has excellent coverage throughout the country on its voice network, and is rapidly expanding its 3G network that currently covers over 80% of the UK. To check the coverage in your area take a look at the O2 Coverage Checker.
