Coverage Checker

When buying a new mobile phone it's always hard to know what the signal strength is going to be like in your area. We've tried to make this a little bit easier by giving you coverage checkers for each and every network so that you can compare the results and decide which network's going to be best for you.

Bear in mind, however, that these aren't always 100% accurate as they don't take into account every small hill, building, or tree that might interfere with the signal strength, and also that little things like the weather can also change how strong a signal you'll get.

3 Mobile

3 have an industry leading 90% 3G coverage and an impressive 99.5% text and voice call coverage. For the 10% of the country where a 3G signal is not always available your 3 phone will default to the T-Mobile network with a 2G connection.

Orange

With their service available to 99% of the UK population, and a rapid rollout of high speed mobile broadband / internet, Orange definitely have it covered. The best confirmation of this is that their rival Three, chose Orange to fill the gaps in their coverage!

O2

As with all the major UK mobile networks, O2 has excellent coverage throughout the country on its voice network, and is rapidly expanding its 3G network that currently covers over 80% of the UK.

T-Mobile

T-Mobile has one of the best coverages in the UK, with a 2G network for making normal voice calls and messaging covering 99% of the population, and their 3G network for fast internet browsing and video calls is currently at 84%, with it expected to be nearly complete by the end of the year. They also operate the world's largest WiFi network, with over 21,000 hotspots worldwide of which 1,200 are in the UK. T-Mobile can also boast the world's largest 2G roaming footprint, covering a massive 27 countries internationally.

Vodafone

Vodafone's network coverage covers almost the entire country, and they are always expanding and developing it to give better service. From October 2007 they began rolling out an upgrade to their mobile broadband service that gives 7.2 Mbps in the most popular locations. At present Vodafone's 2G network covers about 99.7% of the population, and their 3G network covers roughly 80%.
